. Nicholas was born in Greece, lived in Myra Lycia ( modern day Demre, Turkey ). He was the only son of a wealthy Christian man named Epiphanius, and a woman named Johanna. He learned about the bible at a very young age. His parents died when Nicholas was still young. They died from a contagious sickness, that had been transmitted all over the town. St. Nicholas then had to be raised by his uncle, also named Nicholas. NIcholas's uncle was the bishop of Patara. So, his uncle tought the young soon-to-be saint, all about the bible, and then his uncle tought him to be a priest later on.
